COMPARISONS

This page serves as a repository for image-dump .zip files relating to videos on my YouTube channel. Each download varies in size. Due to a reduction in my site's capacity from 5 GB to 2 GB that I wasn't notified of, mid-contract, I can no longer host them all here. Please email me directly (details on the Contact page) and I'll SwissTranfser the files to you. Once I migrate to a new host next year that should no longer be necessary.

KODAK VISION3 VS STILLS FILMS

The Kodak Vision3 cinema films offer various advantages over their stills counterparts. In this video I compared them in my usual home setting, thanks to sponsorship from ThisIsHowIRoll in the UK.

CINESTILL CS-LITE VS CS-LITE+

The CS-LITE+ represents a large improvement over the original light with respect to digitising colour film, without the hardware and data processing required for true RGB scanning. True RGB scanning is still the gold standard but the hardware to do so is not broadly available, is expensive if you buy a premade rig, and requires a lot of work in post. The CS-LITE+ brings you closer to that purity of colour capture without sacrificing all of the flexibility of DSLR scanning. The main issue in my experience is that highlights tend to bear a teal/cyan cast, so I made some presets to work around that.

After coarse adjustment in Negative Lab Pro I always create an interpositive file ("Make a Copy" -> tiff) that I edit normally using Lightroom sliders. This preset is applied to the interpositive, not to the raw file.

I've made three that work well for me. Bear in mind that the sensor you capture with does matter, so they may not work as well for you. They should still work well as a baseline to adjust from!
